It’s your friendly neighborhood (unqualified) health advisor back with more tips and tricks! First of all, I hope you’ve been able to incorporate our girl Lindsey’s health and fitness routines into your daily schedules and if not, check out her post here. Today I want to share with you some detox routines that I have adopted in the last few weeks. Diet and fitness goes a long way when it comes to getting your bikini bodies summer ready, however detoxification will help to clean out toxins and bad vibes that your body may be holding onto internally and externally.
Pikes Peak from Garden of the Gods
Hi Bedheads! I’m finally settled back into a semi-normal routine – sorry for my absence on the blog! I never officially talked about the road trip I went on last week, but I made it back in once piece and it was a great success. The reason behind my trip was to help relocate my brother from Germantown, MD (just outside of Washington, D.C.) to Colorado Springs, CO. I have never driven across the country before so I had absolutely no idea what to expect, all I wanted was to see a handful of cities I’ve never been to and do some serious adventuring and hiking. Below is my experience on the road and at each of the stops we made along the way.
How many apps are on your phone? If you’re anything like me, then you’ve got three full screens with a couple sub-folders full of them. Since I’m always adding to my collection (True Life: I’m Addicted to iPhone Apps), I thought I would share some of my recent favorites that I am absolutely dying over. I apologize in advance for killing your battery power, welcome to the struggle.
*I have an iPhone so be aware that some of these apps may not be available for the Android users yet. All. Hail. Apple.
So I didn’t plan to write this post today but after dragging one of my guy friends to yoga last week, I’m feeling majorly inspired. My friend is a… well… borderline meathead/weight room only at the gym type of guy and it was no easy feat baiting him into the yoga studio. Week after week he questions me about the validity of yoga as a workout, so this time instead of kidney punching him I dared him to come to a class. He obliged, because who doesn’t love a challenge? (AND if you’re a straight guy, a room filled with fit chicks in yoga pants is a win-win). We get to class and I set him up with one of those stinky, pre-loved yoga mats they save from the dumpster for beginners. I then claim two spots for us in the back row of the class because I’m nice and couldn’t bear to see his stressed/embarrassed face on display front and center. After a good laugh at his idea of stretching (Indian-style with his rigor mortis knees at his shoulders), our instructor intro’d the class, started the music, and we were off.
After doing a serious cabinet overhaul this week, I concluded that I needed out with the junk food and in with the health and energy boosting ingredients. It has been far too easy for me to grab pre-made foods on the go with the depressing New England weather we’ve been hit with (almost 100 cumulative inches… no joke!). While there are a lot of great and healthy foods available on the go, it does nothing for your bank account. In an effort to save money and really take control of a healthier lifestyle, I’ve decided to re-load my cabinets with some of my favorite and most versatile items.
Did anyone else stay up too late live-tweeting the Oscars? I’ve got a major fashion hangover today, so bear with me. While the show itself did not disappoint with laughter (NPH’s undies), tears (Common and John Legend performing “Glory”), profound speeches (Julianne Moore, Patricia Arquette, and Graham Moore), and awkward moments (John Travolta holding Idina Menzel’s face and Sean Penn in general), my focus was all about the fashion. Here is my list of hits and misses from last night…
Our New England readers know the drill. There’s another storm headed our way tonight, which means another Sunday shut in from the world with nothing but delivery and Netflix. On a typical weekend I would love nothing more than to sleep in, lounge all day in my sweat suit, and watch Netflix in bed, but unfortunately this has been the case for the last three weeks. Since I’m feeling a little stir-crazy and very hopeless, I’ve put together a list of the movies/shows I’ve been watching to help you guys get through yet another snow day.
Valentine’s Day should be about YOU. Whether you’re prepping for a big date night or in need of some serious pampering, my favorite way to wind down and relax is a good soak in el baño.
I tried out a milk bath this week and it was revolutionary. Before you ditch the idea of soaking in hot water and milk, let me break down my experience after my trail run…
We sincerely hope you’re not feeling this New England snow slump as bad as we are. I’ve been living in velour jumpsuit denial from my bed and Maria is almost off to sunny Uruguay (stinkin’ b*#@%). If you’re like me and stuck in the North(east) Pole, specifically Portsmouth, here is a list of upcoming events you’ll want to roll out of bed and put your snow boots on for.
If you’re anything like us and have been stuck inside for the past 4 days then you’ll probably agree that you’ve taken your snacking game to a whole new level. Something about snowstorms makes us a little stir crazy and we forget to eat healthy and stick with what’s convenient à la takeout and delivery. Additionally, the Super Bowl is coming up this Sunday and whether you’re like us rooting for the New England Patriots (boo Seattle!) or if you’re just in it for the commercials, we know it is yet another excuse to pack in the calories with no holds barred. Maria and I sat down, did a little pinterest browsing, and came up with some great healthy options to try out for your Super Bowl parties. We’re not ones to sacrifice taste for calorie count but we did find some awesome treats that taste great and are good for you. We’ll definitely be cooking up a storm in the kitchen this weekend and we hope you’ll try some of these recipes too! If you do, be sure to snap a photo and tag #blogginginbed on Instagram!
